On July 9, 2020, Governor Joho and his close friend Junet Mohamed embarked on a luxurious journey to Dubai, aboard an Airbus A318 private jet.

According to Junet Mohamed's Twitter account, the two were on their way to visit ODM leader Raila Odinga, who had recently undergone a corrective nerve surgery.

As they soared through the skies, Governor Joho tweeted, 'Off to Dubai with Junet Mohamed to see Baba.'

The Airbus A318, a super mid-sized jet, would have cost around Ksh.500,000 per hour to charter, according to Paramount Business, a private jet charter company.

Given the five-hour flight duration from Nairobi to Dubai, the total cost would have been approximately Ksh.2 million.

The decision to hire a private jet was influenced by the existing air travel restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Raila Odinga, who underwent surgery at a top German facility in the UAE, had flown out of the country aboard a private jet and would likely return similarly.

Earlier, Raila had rubbished rumors of ill health, stating that he was recovering before returning to the country.
