This archive report was first published on 9 July 2020.

On June 25, 2020, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu moved to court to halt her impeachment, citing denial of her rights to a fair administrative action and fair hearing under Article 47 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

However, the High Court has thrown out her petition, ruling that it lacked merit and did not meet the threshold to warrant the grant of conservatory orders.

Justice Weldon Korir made the ruling, stating that the application by Governor Ngilu was speculative and that she was merely apprehensive as the Assembly was yet to debate, discuss or act on the motion for her removal.

The latest ruling now allows Kitui MCAs to proceed with Ms Ngilu's impeachment as planned.
