On July 8, 2020, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna took to Twitter to express his disappointment with Nation Media Group's NTV coverage of the Babu Owino versus DJ Evolve case.
According to Sifuna, NTV accused the judge who granted orders barring the media, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), and the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) from speaking about the case of indecency.
He further alleged that NTV's choice of words might cause the judge to recuse himself from the case, leading to further delay.
“You shouldn't have to be told not to discuss merits of a case @ntvkenya. I watched this piece yesterday and you basically accused the judge of impropriety for this order 'granted in darkness'. You geniuses will cause the judge to recuse himself causing further delay to the case,” Sifuna tweeted.
However, Sifuna's words did not sit well with many Twitter users, who called him out and accused him of siding with Babu Owino, the accused, because he is a member of the ODM Party.
