On July 6, 2020, Nairobi Metropolitan Services Director General Badi issued a public notice announcing the establishment of a new multi-sectoral urban planning committee to handle all planning approvals.

The committee was formed to replace the pre-technical committee and the Urban Planning Technical Committee, which were disbanded in May 2020 due to allegations of corruption and cartels.

As part of the overhaul, Badi's office will deal with planning tasks, and all planning/development complaints, applications, or hoarding, occupation, renovation permits, and hard copy prints of approved drawings are to be submitted to the second floor of the Amphitheatre Wing at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

Notably, Badi had initially cancelled all applications processed through the e-construction development management system by City Hall from March 18, 2020.

Under his leadership, the NMS has cleared a backlog of 4,400 pending development plans since he took charge on March 18, 2020.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had handed over the capital city's core functions to Badi on March 18, 2020, with the aim of bringing an end to corruption and dismantling cartels that had hindered growth in the county.
