As Kenya continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has directed schools to refund fees parents paid for second and third terms or consider them as payment when schools resume in January 2021.
According to the directive by Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha, teachers employed by the Teacher Service Commission (TSC) will continue receiving their salaries for the next six months until schools reopen.
On the other hand, tutors employed by the Board of Management (BOMs) and teachers in private schools will continue to go without pay.
The government spends about KSh 21 billion monthly to pay up to 320,000 teachers who are employed by the TSC.
Deputy President William Ruto has been under scrutiny lately, with some leaders calling for his resignation, citing that he is earning public money without work.
However, his allies have lauded him for his humility and vowed not to back out from Jubilee Party.
Kenya is also expected to receive doses of Remdesivir, a drug that has been praised for its ability to shorten the time COVID-19 patients spend in hospital.
