Published on July 9, 2020, the latest Henley Passport Index reveals that the Kenyan passport has maintained its position as the 72nd most powerful passport in the world.

Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, Kenya's passport continues to offer visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 71 destinations worldwide.

The Japanese passport tops the list with 191 visa-free or visa-on-arrival destinations, followed closely by Singapore with 190 destinations.

South Korea and Germany share third place with 189 destinations each, while Italy, Finland, and Spain rank fourth with 188 destinations.

Kenya's ranking in Africa remains unchanged, with the Seychelles, Mauritius, South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, and Swaziland holding the top seven positions.

According to Amanda Smit, Managing Partner and Head of South, East, and Central Africa at Henley & Partners, Kenya's resilience in retaining its position is a testament to the country's ability to adapt to the pandemic.

"The destinations that have effectively handled the coronavirus outbreak and declared themselves virus-free are the ones that are considered most attractive," Smit said, as quoted by The Star.
