On Wednesday, Napoli secured a 2-1 win over Genoa in Serie A, with Hirving Lozano scoring the decisive goal in the 66th minute. The match was marred by controversy, however, as Napoli's early goal was disallowed due to the new handball rule.

Eljif Elmas thought he had given Napoli the lead in the sixth minute, but the referee decided to review the incident on the pitchside monitor and disallowed the goal more than three minutes after the ball had entered the net. Replays showed that the ball had hit Napoli defender Kostas Manolas's fingertips before rebounding to Elmas.

Genoa nearly took the lead when Francesco Cassata's shot was turned onto the post by keeper Alex Meret, but Napoli eventually took the lead in first-half stoppage time through Dries Mertens. Genoa levelled four minutes after halftime with Edoardo Goldaniga scoring with a free header at the near post from a corner.

Lozano's winning goal was set up by Fabian Ruiz, who launched a long ball over the Genoa defence to find the Mexican forward. Lozano timed his run perfectly and kept his cool to fire past Mattia Perin and secure the win for Napoli.

Other Serie A results included Fiorentina drawing 0-0 with Cagliari, AS Roma beating Parma 2-1, Atalanta defeating Sampdoria 2-0, Bologna losing 1-2 to Sassuolo, and Torino beating Brescia 3-1.
