Published on July 9, 2020, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has initiated a search for a consulting firm to audit the construction of the Nairobi Expressway Project.
The Sh60 billion road project, spanning 27 kilometers from Mlolongo to James Gichuru Road in Westlands, broke ground in October last year. The China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) is constructing the road under a public-private partnership.
KeNHA requires the selected consultant to review plans by CRBC, inspect and monitor construction progress, and conduct tests before issuing a certificate of completion.
According to KeNHA, the consultant will assist in the management of the project agreement signed between KeNHA and CRBC. CRBC will operate the road for 27 years to recoup its investment through toll collection.
KeNHA Director General Peter Mundinia stated, “The Nairobi Expressway will bring much-needed relief to traffic congestion in Nairobi, reducing travel time from two hours to 10-15 minutes during rush hour.”
