On July 9, 2020, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced a reduction in other diseases in Kenya, attributing it to the cleanliness measures observed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During an inspection of Mombasa's preparedness in fighting COVID-19, Kagwe noted that the country was dealing with community infections and urged counties to be ready to handle the high number of infections.
"We have noticed a reduction of certain other diseases like the common cold as a result of cleanliness and hygiene measures before and during COVID-19," Kagwe said.
Kenya reported its highest number of COVID-19 cases on the same day, with 447 people testing positive in the last 24 hours.
Kagwe also emphasized the importance of counties having adequate staff and observing all protocols in their facilities, especially those with less than 300 minimum bed capacity.
