On July 8, 2020, Mzalendo Trust, a Parliamentary Monitoring Organization, released its Annual Parliamentary Scorecard for the third session of the 12th Parliament.

According to the report, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina emerged as the top-performing lawmaker, closely followed by Senators Moses Wetangula (Bungoma), Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Ochillo Ayako (Migori), and Gertrude Musuruve (nominated).

Busia Senator Amos Wako and Kajiado counterpart Philip Mpaayei, along with nominated counterparts Christine Zawadi and Mercy Chebeni, were rated as the most inactive, having contributed less or remained silent in the Senate.

“Senator Amos Wako never uttered a word in 2019,” the report noted, adding that most senators are active in plenary.

Gertrude Musuruve, a nominated senator, was rated as the best-performing female lawmaker, followed by Abshiro Halake, Dr. Agnes Zani, Mary Seneta, and Farhiya Haji, who is also the majority deputy whip.

Johnson Sakaja (Nairobi) was voted the best-performing youthful senator, followed by Cherarkey Samson (Nandi), Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), Moses Kajwang (Homa Bay), and Cleophas Malala (Kakamega).

Sakaja, who chairs the Committee on Labour and Social Welfare, was also ranked as the best-performing chairperson out of the 19 leaders of House committees.
