With the deadline for applications looming, Britain and Saudi Arabia have thrown their hats into the ring to become the next director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

On July 8, 2020, the two countries joined six other aspiring leaders in the bid to lead the Geneva-based trade body, which has faced intense scrutiny and pressure from the Trump administration.
