On July 8, 2020, a Kiambu County resident filed a court petition seeking to have Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria declared unfit to hold public office.

The petitioner, Elijah Gicharu Kimani, claimed to have conducted a self-driven audit of the Gatundu South Constituency Development Fund (CDF) and discovered cases of nepotism, abuse of office, and conflict of interest in the award of contracts.

According to the petition, Kuria allegedly awarded contracts worth Ksh.32,531,540 in six schools to Finishline Construction Ltd, a company whose director is his brother Aloise Kinyanjui Kuria.

Other contracts were awarded to companies owned by Kuria's relatives, including Mwaura Timber Yard Ltd, Supreme General Traders Ltd, Lujatech Enterprises Ltd, Numerical Strength Ltd, Kiki Holdings Ltd, and Kurstan Builders Ltd.

The petitioner alleged that Kuria's relatives received contracts worth millions of shillings, with some companies receiving multiple contracts.

“We discovered and strongly believe that the respondent directly influenced the awarding of the contracts to companies owned by his relatives,” said the petitioner.

“Some of the companies herein mentioned were created for the purpose of business with the interested party with the influence and support of the respondent.”
