On July 8, 2020, a Nairobi court dealt a significant blow to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and media outlets by banning them from commenting on the case of Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino.

The court's decision came after the DPP had posted on social media that the prosecution of Owino over the attempted murder of DJ Evolve had been slowed down due to the victim's inability to record a statement following the shooting.

The court further ordered that the MP's case be mentioned on August 11 to establish whether DJ Evolve had recorded a statement, as the prosecution claimed that the delay was caused by the victim's current condition.

The court's ruling has sparked a public outcry, with many Kenyans questioning why Owino had not yet been prosecuted.
