On July 8, 2020, Jalang'o, a close friend of Churchill Show host Daniel Churchill Ndambuki, shared shocking information about the show's financial struggles during a candid interview with fellow comedian Zainabu Zeddy.
According to Jalang'o, the show's tent costs at least Ksh 3 million to rent, and the host, Churchill, would need at least 5,000 people to pay Ksh 1,000 each for tickets to break even.
He further revealed that the show's operation costs around Ksh 5 million, and on some nights, Churchill would be lucky to make even Ksh 200,000.
“Let me tell you something Churchill will never reveal, and comedians cannot understand. People see a packed audience and think he has made a lot of money,” Jalang'o explained.
He added that comedians are only paid if their sketch is aired on TV, and they often incur costs to perform without getting paid.
“Comedians would perform for months and never air, how do you expect them to make a living yet sometimes they have incurred costs to perform,” Zeddy wondered.
“The audience during the live recording usually get to see up to 15 performances and wonder why only a few are aired,” the comedian added.
