On July 8, 2020, Nana Gecaga, CEO of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, faced a setback in her bid to chair the African chapter of the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA).

South African Taubie Motlhabane, CEO of the Cape Town International Convention Centre, edged out Gecaga with 54% of the total vote, compared to her 46%.

Despite the loss, Gecaga's experience paid off as Jacinta Nzioka, national coordinator for the Kenya National Convention Bureau, was appointed Deputy Chair. Nzioka had previously held the same position in 2018.

As Deputy Chair, Nzioka will serve alongside Motlhabane for a period of two years, steering the affairs of the Africa chapter.

The ICCA African Chapter comprises 34 member organisations in over 9 countries, covering all areas of conference management. Five Kenyan organisations, including the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, are members of the ICCA.

ICCA specialises in the international association meetings sector, offering unrivalled data, communication channels, and business development opportunities.
