On July 8, 2020, the Kenyan government announced new travel rules to combat the spread of Covid-19.
According to Transport Cabinet Minister James Macharia, travellers arriving in Kenya will not be subject to mandatory quarantine if they do not show symptoms of the virus.
However, to enhance safety measures, airports across the country will be restricted to workers and travellers only, except in cases where special assistance is required.
"The new protocol includes measures to minimise contact between crew and passengers at the airport terminus, and to limit physical contact between security officers and passengers, and between airport staff and luggage," said the CS.
Additionally, air operators will reduce on-board services to the bare minimum and introduce phased boarding and disembarking procedures to eliminate crowding at the aisles.
The Madaraka Express train services will resume on Monday between Nairobi and Mombasa, with a total one-way capacity of 600 passengers (or 50 percent of capacity).
Only one train will leave Nairobi for Mombasa at 8:00am and the train out of the coastal city will leave at 1:25pm, the CS said.
