On a warm Friday evening in 2011, a young woman named Serah had a dinner date with a man in Nairobi, Kenya. Unbeknownst to him, her intentions were not entirely romantic.
As they met at a restaurant near Gill House, Serah was carrying a large handbag that seemed out of place for a casual date. Little did he know, it was packed with her dirty laundry.
After dinner, they took a matatu home, where Serah asked to use the washroom. The man, expecting a romantic evening, was shocked to find her washing her own clothes in the bathroom, using his towel and basins.
It turned out that Serah had been struggling with a water problem in her own home in Ruai, and had come to the date with the intention of washing her clothes. The man felt used and confused, and their relationship was never the same after that night.
