On July 8, 2020, politician Eliud Owalo clarified his stance on the chairmanship of Gor Mahia FC, stating he has no interest in the position or any other role within the club.

As a dedicated fan since the 1980s, Owalo expressed his commitment to the Gor Mahia family, emphasizing that his occasional material support to the club should not be misconstrued as a desire for leadership.

He emphasized the need for Kenyans to shift their mindset from a culture of expecting something in return for their support, which he believes has contributed to the country's leadership deficit.

During the upcoming general elections, four positions will be up for grabs, including the chairmanship, which is currently held by Ambrose Rachier. The treasurer's position has attracted three aspirants: Dolfina Odhiambo, Chripine Okoth, and former Organizing Secretary Judith Nyangi.
