On July 8, 2020, Kenya recorded 278 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the country's total caseload to 8,528.
Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the new cases, which were detected from 3,053 samples, out of a total of 196,508 samples tested so far.
With the partial lockdown lifted by President Uhuru Kenyatta in March, Kagwe reiterated the importance of personal responsibility in preventing the spread of the disease.
"For all those who have been exposed, I want to assure them, that the government is committed to ensure all our frontline soldiers are protected at all times," Kagwe said during his tour of Makueni County.
He also announced that 89 more patients had been discharged after recovering from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 2,593.
"We give credit to our health workers for the work they are doing," Kagwe said, praising the efforts of healthcare workers in the fight against the pandemic.
Unfortunately, two more patients succumbed to the disease, bringing the total number of fatalities since March to 169.
As the country continues to battle the pandemic, Kagwe emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the public in containing the spread of the disease.
