On July 8, 2020, Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi issued a gag order in the DJ Evolve case, stopping several entities from commenting on the issue.

The order affects the media, bloggers, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the Director of Criminal Investigations.

The gag order was issued after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, whose given name is Paul Ongili, went to court following an NTV story about DJ Evolve's recovery from a gunshot wound allegedly inflicted by the lawmaker.

According to the NTV interview, DJ Evolve stated that since the shooting incident, he has lost his autonomy and struggles to talk.

Owino was charged with attempted murder over the shooting of the DJ in January 2020 at the popular B Club in Kilimani Estate, Nairobi.

His lawyers, Cliff Ombeta and Dunstan Omari, argued that the DPP's actions were affecting the emotions of the accused person, telling the state prosecutor to 'stick in his lane.'
