On Tuesday, Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya marked a significant milestone in the county's development with the launch of the second phase of a Sh600 million fruit processing plant in Shimba Hills, Kubo South Ward, Matuga Sub County.

Published on July 8, 2020, the groundbreaking ceremony was attended by various county government officials, including County Executive Committee Members Nassib Nyahi, Joanne Nyamasyo, and Sylvia Chidodo.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Mvurya assured the people of Kwale that his administration is committed to completing all flagship projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of residents.

He revealed that the construction of the fruit-processing plant began last year and will be completed in phases by next year.

The Governor urged farmers from Kubo South ward and nearby areas to cultivate more fruit-producing plants, stating that the soon-to-be operational fruit-processing plant will require fruits from nearby farms to operate fully.

“Soon this project will be completed and it will require fruits from nearby farms for it to operate fully. I therefore urge you to start cultivating fruit-producing plants now so that you benefit once the project is operational,” he said.

During the ceremony, Governor Mvurya also highlighted other flagship projects undertaken by the county government, including the Kwale Teachers Training College in Bang’a – Kinango Sub County, and the Kombani Fresh Produce Wholesale Market in Kombani, Matuga Sub County.

On infrastructure development, the Governor stated that several projects have been accomplished through partnership with the national government, including the Samburu-Kinango, Kanana-Shimoni, and Lunga Lunga-Vanga roads.

“At the moment, the Dongo Kundu Southern Bypass Project is ongoing and is expected to be completed next year,” he added.

Speaking on the COVID-19 pandemic, the Governor urged the people of Kwale to adhere to all health regulations set by the national government to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
