On July 1, 2020, the bodies of two siblings, Alvina Mutheu, 3, and Henry Jackton, 4, were discovered in a vehicle impounded at Athi River Police Station. The vehicle had been at the station for over three months after being involved in an accident on Mombasa Road.

According to Dr. Johansen Oduor, the Chief Government Pathologist, a four-hour postmortem exercise conducted on the children's bodies could not indicate their cause(s) of death due to the extent of decomposition.

Speaking at the Chiromo Funeral Parlour, Dr. Oduor stated that both bodies had no visible injuries or fractured bones to suggest the children had been subjected to trauma.

However, samples extracted from the bodies were forwarded to the Government Chemist for further tests to establish the duration the bodies had stayed in the vehicle before being discovered.

Police launched an investigation into the mysterious murders, and six people, including the children's parents, have been grilled by homicide detectives. The owner of the vehicle and a traffic police officer who moved the car from its initial parking spot will also be interrogated.
