On Tuesday, July 7, a dramatic video surfaced on social media showing a matatu driver, Dickson Maina, jumping from the rooftop of a four-storey building in Kayole to escape a baboon attack.
According to Maina, he was at Arrow Web Hospital when he heard people shouting and curiosity got the better part of him, leading him to climb to the rooftop to check out what was happening.
"I heard people shouting then climbed the balcony to check out what the problem was, that's when I saw the baboon charging at me," Maina narrated.
He claimed that the baboon wanted to bite him, prompting him to jump but miss the balcony and land on an iron sheet fence, breaking his left arm and sustaining deep cuts on both his thumbs and the right side of his cheek.
Residents who tried to chase the baboon away came to Maina's rescue, making an opening on the iron sheet fence to access him and taking him for first aid at Arrow Web Hospital before transferring him to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment.
Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has been called upon to compensate Maina for his injuries, with the matatu driver questioning what could have happened if the baboon attacked a child.
