2 MCAs Charged After Robbing Colleagues While Armed

On May 7, two members of the Homa Bay County Assembly allegedly robbed their colleagues at Kendu Bay, Rachuonyo North Sub-county, while armed with clubs and stones.

According to a report by Kenyan Digest on July 7, the two MCAs, Morris Ogwang' and Michael Odira, reportedly stole property worth Ksh 272,500 from their victims, including Homa Bay Town East MCA Juma Awuor and Homa Bay Town Central's Julius Nyambok.

Awuor was reportedly robbed of Ksh 75,000, had his wristwatch worth Ksh 15,000 and open shoes worth Ksh 2,500 stolen, while Nyambok was robbed of Ksh 180,000 and later injured.

The incident occurred during a meeting, and the lawmakers also damaged a car belonging to Awuor, a Toyota Land Cruiser whose rear left window cost Ksh 12,000.

On July 7, the two MCAs appeared before Homa Bay Senior Resident Magistrate Joy Wesonga, where they pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on Ksh 150,000 bond each.

The hearing of the matter is scheduled for July 28, 2020.
