On July 2, 2020, Caroline Tegeret made history by becoming the first Ogiek woman to be admitted to the bar, a feat that has earned her recognition and admiration from her community and beyond.

Caroline hails from Nessuit, a small village in Njoro, Nakuru County. Despite facing numerous challenges, including financial difficulties and limited access to education, she persevered and pursued her dream of becoming a lawyer.

After graduating from Moi University School of Law in 2017, Tegeret joined the Kenya School of Law in 2018 under the Advocates Training Programme. She then served her pupillage at Kiplenge & Kurgat Advocates in Nakuru before qualifying to be admitted as an advocate of the High Court.

According to Tegeret, her quest to pursue a career in law began in high school, where she developed a passion for law. She was driven by a desire to bring change to her community, which has high illiteracy levels and cultural practices like female genital mutilation (FGM) and early marriages.

As she reflected on her journey, Tegeret credited her father's resilience and determination as a source of strength and motivation. She aspires to work with NGOs and government agencies to promote the rights of minority and marginalized communities, amplifying the voices of those who cannot speak for themselves.
