On June 26th, Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala faced a double-edged sword as he presented a report on the impeachment of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, who survived, while also being expelled from his parent party ANC.

The party accused Malala of sidelining it, despite helping him win the Senator's seat in the 2017 General Election.

ANC secretary-general Barack Muluka stated that the decision to expel Malala had been communicated to the Registrar of Political Parties for a firm decision.

However, Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu refused to endorse the party's intention to expel Malala, citing that the disciplinary proceedings did not follow due process.

According to Nderitu, the disciplinary committee was not reconstituted in line with the ANC party Constitution, and the National Governing Council did not approve the disciplinary committee as required.
