Angry MCAs Take Senate to Court Over Waiguru's Impeachment ¶

Ward representatives from Kirinyaga County have filed a petition at the Kerugoya High Court, challenging the Senate's decision to save Governor Anne Waiguru from impeachment.
The MCAs, through their lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, argue that the Senate did not adhere to constitutional requirements in handling the impeachment case.
Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, representing the MCAs, had previously stated that the Senate's report on the impeachment was a 'pure mistrial.'
"Let the court decide on the legal propriety of this Senate report on the impeachment of Governor Anne Waiguru. We cannot allow state organs funded by the public to abdicate on constitutional duties with impunity. We are filing today," Njiru argued.
The MCAs want a three-judge bench to hear their petition, which they believe will raise issues that have never been raised in the country.
Waiguru was impeached on June 9, 2020, after 23 out of 33 MCAs voted to kick her out of office.
