On July 8, 2020, two Kenyan rugby players, Frank Wanyama and Alex Olaba, were released on a cash bail of Sh300,000 each after being found guilty of rape and handed 15-year jail terms.

The High Court had ordered a retrial of their case, where they were accused of raping a woman, identified as WA, on the night of February 10, 2018.

WA testified in court that she and the two men ended up in Wanyama's house on the night in question, where they played a drinking game and she consumed alcohol and smoked bhang.

She claimed that she did not remember much of the night, but recalled Wanyama allegedly raping her and the two men taking turns assaulting her.

Wanyama and Olaba denied the rape charges, arguing that they had sex with WA in the belief that it was a consensual act.

They also challenged the trial, arguing that the star witness, WA, never took a Bible to swear that her testimony would be the truth.
