Kagwe's Warning to Aging Health Ministry Officials

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has issued a stern warning to aging officials in his ministry who have refused to retire, saying it is time for them to leave and make way for younger staff.

Speaking during a press conference on July 7, 2020, Kagwe said it was a matter of common sense for officials to retire when their time is up, and that he would have to call their children to ask them to leave the ministry.

"Hatutaki kumuaibisha yeyote. Kama umehudumia Wizara ya Afya, haijalishi kwa muda upi lakini wakati umri wako wa kustaafu umewadia, tafadhali nenda nyumbani kwa usalama na kwa heshima. Nenda ukawapungie wafanyikazi wenzako kwaheri," Kagwe said.

His warning comes just a month after a similar incident at the ministry, where four senior officials refused to be transferred and were eventually forced to leave.

According to sources, the officials in question have been serving in various departments of the ministry for over a decade and have been resisting calls to retire.

It is worth noting that the ministry has been under scrutiny in recent months over the misuse of funds allocated to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

On the same day, Kagwe also announced the introduction of new COVID-19 visa regulations, which included the issuance of 183 new visas and a total of 8,250 confirmed cases.
