On Tuesday, July 7, a group of parents approached the Ministry of Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha to address their concerns regarding school fees payments.

The parents, who had paid school fees for term one, were worried that their payments would not be carried over to 2021 due to the suspension of learning in 2020.

"For those parents who had paid school fees for term one, term two, and the whole year, we would like him to address this issue if the fees will be carried forward to the next year," said one of the parents, Matara, who has two school-going children.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had interacted with students at State House, Nairobi on Friday, November 1, 2019, as seen in the photo above.

Magoha had announced that the 2020 school calendar was considered lost due to the coronavirus pandemic, and primary and secondary school pupils would return to class next January.

However, the parents now fear that the move will lead to the school fees paid not being pushed to 2021.

Magoha clarified that the decision meant that there shall be no KCPE and KCSE in 2020, and the exams would be held later in 2021.

He also stated that all learners in grade 1 to 4, Standard 5 to 7, and Form One to Three would remain in the current classes in 2021, with two Form One classes.

The CS added that the Ministry would explore online learning, and TVETS and colleges would reopen in September with strict adherence to Covid-19 regulations.
