On July 7, 2020, a planned Saba Saba protest in Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD) was met with resistance from the police, who used teargas to disperse the protesters.
Among those arrested during the protest was Kibra activist Editar Achieng, who had vied for the Kibra parliamentary seat in the 2019 by-election following the demise of MP Ken Okoth.
Several other protesters were also taken into custody as they accompanied civil society groups and veteran members of Saba Saba who were marching towards the city center to commemorate the 30th Saba Saba Day protest.
The protest, which was communicated by activist Boniface Mwangi, aimed to push for the implementation of the 2010 Constitution.
According to the protesters, the gains of the Saba Saba movement would be diminished if the Constitution was not implemented to the fullest.
Today marked 30 years since veteran Saba Saba members, including Raila Odinga, Charles Rubia, and Kenneth Matiba, held a protest to fight for a multi-party system and other national interests.
