Man Dies En Route to Hospital in Juja, Kenya

A disturbing video surfaced on July 7, 2020, showing a man who had driven himself to a local health facility in Juja, Kenya, collapsing and later being pronounced dead.

According to eyewitness reports, the man had driven himself in a red car and showed signs of breathlessness before collapsing.

Medical officers dressed in hazmat suits were seen putting the man's body in a white body bag, while police officers from Juja Sub-county dispersed a crowd that had gathered to watch the scene unfold.

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe had earlier stated that COVID-19 cases would be handled in the counties in which they are discovered and reiterated the need for counties to be well prepared.

He called upon Kenyans to ensure they keep their respective county governments accountable and to have facilities in place to take care of them when they get sick.

Most of the cases in Kenya are mild and can be treated using the Ministry of Health's home care protocols. As of July 7, 2020, over 600 COVID-19 patients had been released into home-based care to create more resources for critical patients.

The adoption of home-based care is aimed at relieving pressure on the country's medical system as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise exponentially.
