On June 30, the High Court ordered a retrial for Alex Olaba and Frank Wanyama, two former Kenya Sevens rugby players, who were serving 15-year prison sentences each for gang raping a woman in 2018.

According to court records, the duo was convicted of gang raping a musician on February 10, 2018, at a house party in the Seefar apartments, Nyayo Highrise estate.

Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku of the Milimani law courts had initially found them guilty of the offence of gang rape and handed them the sentence on August 16 last year.

However, following their retrial, they were released on a cash bail of Sh300,000 by Magistrate Zainab Abdul of the Milimani Law Court.
