On July 7, 2020, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced that Kenya had confirmed 183 new positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections to 8,250.
Speaking at Afya House in Nairobi, CS Kagwe stated that the new cases were recorded from 2,061 tests carried out in the last 24 hours, with a total of 193,455 tests conducted since the disease was first reported in the country.
The 183 patients included 177 Kenyans and 6 foreigners, with 119 males and 64 females between the ages of 4 and 79 years.
The new infections were confirmed in various counties, including Nairobi (100), Machakos (37), Kiambu (14), Mombasa (13), Kajiado (11), Nakuru (5), and Busia (3).
CS Kagwe also revealed that 90 patients were discharged from various health facilities across the country, increasing the number of recoveries to 2,504.
However, the tally of fatalities hit 167 after three more patients succumbed to the novel coronavirus.
CS Kagwe emphasized the importance of individual responsibility in the fight against the disease, urging the public to exercise cooperation and unity.
He also highlighted the rising cases of mental health-related issues, such as depression and suicide, which were exacerbated by the pandemic.
CS Kagwe praised President Uhuru Kenyatta's efforts to mitigate the issue through the formation of a taskforce to study the status of mental health in the country and recommend solutions.
