On the 30th anniversary of Saba Saba, a day that marked nationwide protests in 1990 demanding multiparty democracy from the Moi regime, protests erupted in Nairobi on Tuesday morning.
However, the police were quick to respond, dispersing groups of protesters marching with placards in the city centre with a heavy security presence.
Despite being dispersed, the protesters regrouped at the National Archives area, where they continued to demonstrate against the government.
Activist Editar Ochieng and Wilfred Olal of Mathare Social Justice Centre were among those arrested, with some being booked at police stations.
The police used teargas to disperse the protesters, leaving many to wonder if the government was willing to listen to their demands.
