Published on July 7, 2020, a Nairobi court has reopened a case against two former Kenya Sevens rugby players accused of gang raping a woman two years ago.

Frank Wanyama and Alex Olaba, who were previously sentenced to 15 years in prison each, have pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court released them on cash bail of Sh300,000 each, despite the prosecution's objections.

The case was previously declared a mistrial after it emerged that the complainant was not sworn in as required by law before testifying. The two men had already spent 10 months in prison before the mistrial was declared.

The alleged incident occurred on February 11, 2018, at Seefa apartment in High-rise in Nairobi County. The court has directed that the case be mentioned on July 21 for the purpose of fixing a hearing date.

The magistrate warned the duo against interfering with witnesses in the case, lest their bail terms be cancelled.
