This archive report was first published on 7 July 2020.

On July 3rd, 2020, ride-hailing service SWVL reported a hacking incident that exposed client data.

The company confirmed that there was an unauthorized access to its IT infrastructure, but assured that credit card information was not accessed. However, the exposed data includes names, email addresses, and phone numbers, which can be used to access or steal more information.

SWVL has taken several measures to ensure the safety of its customers, including regenerating all access keys, signing out all customers from accounts, reviewing access privileges, reviewing firewall and access controls, and strengthening infrastructure to increase security and resistance to attacks.

The company advises all customers to update their SWVL account's passwords and be cautious of scammers who may try to call or text them and ask for personal details.

SWVL has not specified how many customers were affected, but it seems the issue affected all of their customers. Investigations are still ongoing.
