On July 7, 2020, the High Court ordered the retrial of two rugby players accused of raping a woman in 2018, a year after they were sentenced to 15 years in jail.

Frank Wanyama and Alex Olaba, former Kenya Sevens players, denied the charge of gang rape before a Milimani Law Court magistrate, Zainab Abdul. They were ordered to deposit a cash bail of Sh300,000 each to secure their release.

The presiding magistrate declined to allow the accused to use the previous cash bail of Sh100,000, citing that the matter was under a new file.

The two players had been found guilty of raping an upcoming female musician after attending a birthday party in 2018 and were initially sentenced to 15 years in jail by Magistrate Martha Mutuku.
