On July 1, 2020, the 2020/21 Financial Year kicked off, and President Uhuru Kenyatta held a virtual meeting at State House, Nairobi with senior ranks of the Executive, including Cabinet Secretaries, Chief Administrative Secretaries, and Principal Secretaries.
During the meeting, the President outlined his administration's transformative agenda for the nation, focusing on the implementation and completion of ongoing priority projects and programmes.
He emphasized the importance of strictly implementing these programmes within set timelines and budgets, reiterating his earlier directive that no new projects will be initiated except with his express authority.
As a measure of accountability, the President announced that completion rates of projects and programmes will be adopted as a key performance indicator for all Cabinet Secretaries, Chief Administrative Secretaries, and Principal Secretaries.
The President called for collective responsibility in the implementation of government projects and programmes, urging the entire Ministerial Establishment to ensure timely delivery of quality outcomes.
He also acknowledged the current difficult economic environment occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic and reminded government departments to settle pending bills as a key priority.
Furthermore, the President directed all Ministries, State Departments, and State Agencies to give preferential procurement to Kenyan-made goods and services in support of local industries.
He thanked the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee (NDICCC) and the National Development Implementation Technical Committee (NDITC) for their progress in attaining the National Development Goals.
In conclusion, the President warned the senior ranks of the Executive against corruption and malfeasance, stating that there is no room for these vices in his administration.
