Published on July 7, 2020, a clash between two communities at the border of Makueni and Kajiado counties has left four people dead in the past three days.
The disputed Mikululo area in Kibwezi West Constituency has been the epicenter of the violence, with two people killed yesterday and one person nursing serious injuries at Makueni Referral Hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers struck in the middle of the night, armed with spears and swords, demanding to know why they had occupied the land.
"Since February, I have been living here in peace. Yesterday, I arrived at home from work at around 6pm and we stayed here with my two children together with a neighbour," said Florence Nduku, whose son and neighbour were killed in the latest incident.
She added that they were living in fear after an attack the previous night, which is why they had invited their 70-year-old neighbour to come over and keep vigil together.
"We retired to bed around mid-night. Before we could settle to sleep, I saw a group of armed men approaching. They accessed the house by destroying the wall. They asked why we had occupied their land," Nduku said.
She managed to escape as the attackers concentrated on her two sons and her neighbour, but when she returned the following day, she found her son, 18, and the neighbour dead.
