On June 25, 2020, the Embassy of Iran launched a virtual cartoon festival competition on Africa and COVID-19, targeting African and Iranian cartoonists.

The competition, which is in partnership with the University of Nairobi and the East African Cartoonists' Society, aims to give the youth an opportunity to pass messages on safe keeping during the pandemic.

According to Iran Ambassador to Kenya Jafar Barmaki, the competition targets those in quarantine by giving them an opportunity to send artistic messages on how to combat COVID-19.

Each cartoonist can send a maximum of 3 artworks to [email protected] focusing on various themes, including sanitization principles, family in quarantine, social distancing, and sacrifice by health workers.

The best artworks will be selected in two parts, one by public votes and another by the jury. The winner of the public vote will receive $300, while the runners-up will receive $200.

The winner selected by the jury will receive $500, the 1st runners-up will receive $400, while the 2nd runners-up will receive $300.

Additionally, all entries will receive a voucher to access free health services for 3 months at the 7 Red Crescent clinics in Africa.

Participants must send their artworks to the secretariat by midnight on August 5, 2020, while public voting will be held between July 10, 2020, and August 17, 2020, at the Islamic Republic of Iran's Facebook page: @Iran.Kenya.

The Jury selection will be announced on August 19, 2020, at the Islamic Republic of Iran's Embassy website: https://kenya.mfa.gov.ir/en.
