SWVL Kenya has been hit by a security breach, just two months after the company was approved to operate by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). The approval was granted after the company met all the safety requirements and regulations set by the body.

On July 3, 2020, the company noticed a breach of customer details, including emails and phone numbers. The company is currently investigating the matter and has confirmed that customers' passwords and credit card information were not affected by the breach.

"Continuing our trend of being open and honest with our customers, we wish to inform you that our team recently identified a security breach that involved unauthorized access to our systems," the company said in a notice.

SWVL Kenya has taken several steps to address the breach, including regenerating access keys, signing out customers from their accounts, reviewing access privileges, and strengthening their systems. The company has also employed a team of leading cybersecurity experts to help resolve the breach.

Customers have been advised to update their logins with more secure passwords and to be on the lookout for any malpractices, such as receiving emails or calls asking for personal details, which SWVL Kenya never asks for.
