On July 7, 2020, a Nairobi court released two former rugby players, Alex Olaba and Frank Wanyama, on KSh 300,000 cash bail after they successfully appealed their 15-year sentence for gang rape.
The two, formerly of Kenyan Harlequins, were found guilty of the charges filed by a Kenyan musician in 2019.
However, the court quashed the sentencing following the appeal, citing that one of the key witnesses in the matter did not swear before taking the stand.
Olaba and Wanyama argued that their constitutional rights would be violated if they continued to be held in light of the new development.
