Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has cancelled the initial plan to reopen schools in September, opting instead for a January 2021 reopening with exams to be held the same month.

The decision was made in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which has seen a surge in cases in recent weeks.

Magoha's announcement comes as a relief to many parents and students who were worried about the safety of returning to school in the midst of the pandemic.
