On 7 December, Ghana's main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will contest the presidential election with a historic ticket.

For the first time, the NDC has chosen a female candidate as its vice-presidential candidate: Prof Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman.

Prof Opoku Agyeman, a former education minister and vice-chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, will join forces with former president John Dramani Mahama in the election.

As the NDC's vice-presidential candidate, Prof Opoku Agyeman will have the opportunity to become Ghana's first female vice-president if the party wins the election.

Party members praise Prof Opoku Agyeman's humility, experience, and accomplishments, which they believe will be valuable assets in the role.

The election on 7 December is expected to be closely contested, with incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo seeking a second consecutive term.
