July 4, 2020, marked a significant day in the political landscape of Kenya as Didmus Barasa, the first-time Kimilili MP, addressed his supporters in the constituency. In a bold statement, Barasa assured the hustler nation that Raila Odinga, the ODM leader, was a small fish to deal with.
According to Barasa, Ruto's coalition had put Raila in his place, and there was no need for his supporters to worry. He further claimed that they had their own informants in ODM monitoring Raila's movements.
“Raila is a small man, we have our spies watching him closely. This time we are going to send him to Bondo permanently,” Barasa said.
Barasa's statement was a clear indication that Ruto's coalition was confident in their ability to take on Raila and his ODM party. He claimed that Raila had lost his charm and could no longer pose any threat to his political competitors, including attempting to block Ruto's presidential bid.
“Tinga (Raila) is a small man, we know what he is up to. We have spies following him wherever he goes. The other time they lied he had travelled to Congo but we knew that was not true. He is in Dubai, we are aware of what he intends to do when he returns. Some of his employees feed us with information including what he is planning,” Barasa said.
Barasa also disclosed that there were ongoing plans to persuade Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetang'ula and his ANC colleague Musalia Mudavadi to join forces with Ruto for the 2022 presidential election.
