July 7, 2020 - Gospel artist Ruth Matete's husband, John Olakami Apewajoye, died in a gas explosion at their home in Athi River, Kenya, on April 11, 2020.

However, his burial has been halted by Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) due to an outstanding medical bill of over Ksh 650,000.

The hospital's decision has sparked a clash with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), which had directed KNH to waive the charges on body storage in June 2020.

Matete's lawyer, Robert Odanga, questioned the motive behind the directive, given the conflict between Matete and the Nigerian High Commission.

"Has the case been closed? Is there a complainant? Are the homicide detectives still using the items they picked from her house such as her phones? Can she get them back?" Odanga wondered.

The lawyer added that Matete's career had stalled and her life was in disarray due to the financial constraints she was facing.
