TikTok's Decision to Halt Operations in Hong Kong ¶
On July 7, 2020, TikTok announced that it would be stopping its app operations in Hong Kong, citing recent events and the imposition of a new security law by China.
As part of its decision, TikTok stated, "In light of recent events, we've decided to stop operations of the TikTok app in Hong Kong," in a statement to AFP.
Despite concerns over user data, TikTok has consistently denied sharing any user data with authorities in China, and has maintained that it does not intend to begin agreeing to such requests.
The company expects to take several days to wind down its operations in Hong Kong, where it has become a popular platform for users to share short-form video clips.
