On July 8, 2020, a Makadara magistrate will hear from a police surgeon who recommended lesser charges for a man's ex-girlfriend who stabbed him.

Senior Principal Magistrate Merissa Opondo rejected Fredrick Mutambi Odero's plea to withdraw assault charges against Elizabeth Wanjiku Waweru, citing grave charges.

Odero, a casual labourer, had wanted to withdraw the charges against Wanjiku after they reconciled, with Wanjiku agreeing to cater for his hospital bills.

However, the magistrate was not convinced, stating that the accused would have to pay more for the injuries than just the hospital bill alone.

Wanjiku was stabbed by Odero's ex-girlfriend on June 28, 2020, at their residence in Kahawa West, and was admitted to hospital for six days.

Senior principal prosecution counsel Pamela Nzambi also submitted that the charges against Wanjiku were lenient.

Magistrate Opondo postponed Wanjiku's plea taking until the police surgeon, Dr Joseph Maundu, appears in court to explain how he determined the injuries meted on Odero.
