On July 6, 2020, a dramatic scene unfolded in Bungoma County when a function led by Governor Wycliffe Wangamati to open the ward administrator's office turned chaotic.
The event, which was attended by the Governor, his Deputy Charles Ngome, and Senior County officials, was meant to be a celebration of the new office built by the County government.
However, the atmosphere took a turn for the worse when nominated MCA Fred Musebe took to the podium to address residents and criticized Wangamati's regime for neglecting Tongaren ward in terms of development.
Musebe accused Sports and Gender Chief Officer Caro Masete of fueling violence between Tongaren MCAs and the Governor by feeding the lawmaker with lies and rumors against the County Assembly Members.
Wangamati's supporters snatched the microphone from Musebe and manhandled him, resulting in chaos that forced the Mbakalo police officers and the Governor to intervene.
During the altercation, Musebe's jaw was broken, and he was left injured.
Wangamati's supporters and the MCAs clashed, with both sides engaging in a push and pull altercation.
The commotion started when Musebe asked Wangamati to complete the Misikhu road that was started by former Governor Ken Lusaka.
‘’Your excellence we as MCAs are wondering with your misplaced priorities yet you are very learned how do you take a dairy milk processing plant to Webuye instead of putting it here in Tongaren where milk is available from the many dairy farmers we have,’’ Musebe said.
